John’s Toolbox: Wordpress Settings
I want to work to add value for YOU, my blog readers. Hopefully my random ideas and motivational speeches help, but I’m launching a section in my blog called Toolbox. The Toolbox will be really specific how to’s and actionable items that you can do at home on your own website, blog, or social network.
I truly want this to help you so let me know what types of issues you’re having and what you want to be added to the Toolbox.

What method did you use to install Wordpress? Because the standard, “Famous 5-Minute Install” specifically asks you about this preference when you set it up. See the first screenshot here, “Allow my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Technorati”:

Perhaps an automatic install tool bypasses that option and defaults to a private blog.
Hey Chris! Dang, you’re a smart guy. I am using some automatic install tools and that’s probably the problem. I should stick with the Famous 5-minute. Maybe you can do a guest blog on steps for efficient Wordpress install?

This is how I learned to install Wordpress in the first place. It’s a bit old, (still using Wordpress 2.5,) but the information is still relevant and the steps are still the same.
